(b.1879 - d. 1936)

During World War I, Capt. Landenberger was the commanding officer of the USS Indiana.



Another view of the USS Indiana (BB - 1) that was commissioned on November 20, 1895.
She was decommissioned on Dec.29, 1903 and then was recommissioned on May 24, 1917
and served through World War I with Capt. George Landenberger in command.
She had four 13" guns, eight 6" guns, four 3" guns and three torpedo tubes.

Citation:
The Navy Cross is awarded to Captain George Landenberger, U.S. Navy,
for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility as
commanding officer of the U.S.S. Indiana, in the Atlantic Fleet.



         



Captain Landenberger was the 21st Naval Governor of American Samoa
from May 12, 1932 until April 10, 1934.   He died of cancer on Jan. 15, 1936.
